Avoid Scams when you Sell Diamonds in Essex County
Protect Yourself when Selling Diamonds
Essex County is a hotbed for the diamond market, with new buyers and sellers popping up daily. Such a popular market inevitably leads to those trying to take advantage of others in the market, creating a peculiar situation. Because of the generally high price that involves diamonds, thieves know if they can just steal or scam one customer, their earnings will support them for weeks or months. Even if they only successfully steal from one out of every 1,000 potential customers, they have a huge incentive to continue to do so. For your sake, I came up with a three-step guide that you can follow and avoid most of these problems when selling your diamonds in Essex County.
Step 1: Value Your Diamonds
The first step in any successful sale is for you to figure out how much your diamonds are worth. If they have any type of identifier, especially if it’s a diamond watch, you can look it up online and get a general estimate. Then it’s important to realize that yours is most likely used, and being sold in a re-seller market, which marginally lowers the price.
If you truly have no idea what you have or how much it’s worth, take it to an expert. Not just your first “We Buy Diamonds” sign that you see on the street, but to someone who has been dealing with diamonds for years and know exactly what it’s worth.
Step 2: Find Competing Offers
Don’t just sell your diamonds to the first person that gives you an offer – go around and see what everyone is offering. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. The importance of step 1 is so that you are aware of an offer that is too good to be true. No one is going to actually give you $1,000 for a $400 ring, and if someone says they are, chances are you will be ripped-off in some fashion.
Step 3: Ask Questions
Question the people giving you offers to buy your diamonds and see just how much they know. While everyone in the diamond industry is looking to make a few bucks, it’s pretty simple to figure out those who know about the money, and those who know about the diamonds. In my experience, always choose the latter. The number one thing that the scammers don’t want you to do is ask questions. They want you to give them your diamonds and never see them again – presumably so you don’t bust their face for stealing or running a dishonest business.
